Tomato and Pepper Transplants for Sale at Raincatcher’s Garden

March 11, 2023

You may not be thinking about tomatoes tonight but I am. March 15th is the frost free date for the Dallas area which means it is not likely we will have a frost after that date. However, next week we may have a few low temperature nights so you may want to wait to plant. Regardless of the date you choose to plant, you are going to want to come to our garden on Tuesday to purchase tomato and pepper plants; lovingly started and tended by Raincatcher’s volunteers. See details below. Ann

It’s time to plant!!!

Before the First Frost

This is look at The Raincathcher’s Garden before the first frost. Temperatures may drop this weekend and then around mid to late November you can expect our first frost. Take a good look now through these pictures from Starla. She snapped many pictures and kept saying “the garden looks amazing.” Starla saw butterflies, a Texas spiny lizard and laybugs enjoying our fall garden.

Dallas County Master Gardener Japanese Maple Sale Coming Soon

The Joy of Japanese Maples

You may have noticed the brilliant reds and golds of Japanese Maples around town in recent months. The foliage colors and textures were more reminiscent of an autumn drive through New England than fall in North Texas!

The Dallas County Master Gardeners are hosting a sale of Japanese Maples in March. Many of us are familiar with the variety “Bloodgood,” however the Maples we are offering are varieties not often available at local nurseries. This is your opportunity to purchase these trees in one- and two-gallon sizes.

There is a place in every garden for a Japanese Maple. They thrive in afternoon shade (the perfect understory tree!) and will make that special spot in your garden a focal point year-round.

Watch for  the sign-up genius link and additional information including varieties available, pricing, and contactless pick-up details, in February.

Raincatcher’s Plant Sale Online Purchasing Available Now

Welcome to the 2020 Raincatcher’s Plant Sale, pandemic edition. While there’s nothing we gardeners love more than browsing through the aisles looking for plants, we’re hoping that you’ll do some online shopping instead this week. As Master Gardeners, we’re still being very diligent about observing social distancing guidelines and limiting the size of gatherings.

Home grown scented geraniums for sale! View these and a good variety of other
desirable garden favorites via our on line plant sale.

On the other hand, we’ve been growing, dividing, propagating and digging plants for months in anticipation of this much-needed fundraiser, so this sign-up is our answer to how to share all these well-adapted and well-loved plants with you while keeping both our community and our volunteers safe.

We hope you enjoy browsing the list of creatively arranged and presented plants here.

Here’s how it works:

Sign up to reserve the items you wish to purchase. There’s no need to create an account in Signup Genius, but we will need your email address.

Watch your email for an invoice in the next day or so from the Dallas County Master Gardener Association Square Payment Processing account. Please pay your invoice with a credit or debit card by Monday, June 1st

Come to the garden at Midway Hills Christian Church for a “no-contact” delivery of your plants on Tuesday, June 2nd, between 10am and 1pm. Please protect your vehicle upholstery ahead of time if needed. You will need to remain in your vehicle for Master Gardeners in protective masks and gloves to load your purchases for you.

Please note: volunteers are not allowed to take cash or checks for this sale. All purchases must be prepaid by credit or debit card.

Enter the church parking lot from the south entrance only and drive around to the west side of the property. Please form a single line if others are receiving deliveries ahead of you.

A Master Gardener volunteer will greet you and get your name then direct your vehicle to a loading area.

Another Master Gardener will bring your pre-paid purchases to your vehicle. Please remain in your vehicle and unlock the back door or pop open the trunk or cargo area, and the volunteer will place everything inside for you.

Easy as pie, you’re on your way home with a car full of plants to enjoy this summer!

Raincatcher’s is a research, education and demonstration garden and project of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Dallas County Master Gardeners located on the campus of Midway Hills Christian Church.

It’s Spring and Plant Sales Are Coming!

April 2, 2019

Over and under and in and out, Roseanne and her volunteer band of planters are busily preparing for the upcoming plant sale at Texas Discovery Gardens.  They could still use some help in the mornings  and be sure to ready your list and make your way to the plant sale April 13 and 14th, (April 12th for members).

I just added a new Shrub to mine !

Texas Discovery Garden Greenhouse

Under the tables, so to speak at TDG!

I spy Mangave ‘Pineapple Express’.

Kerria japonica is the perfect blooming shrub for shade to part sun.

Tig Thompson and pots!

The Raincatcher’s Garden plant sale is April 25th. More information about what we have to sell will be coming your way in the next few weeks. Good prices, home-grown selections!

Putting on plant sales is a lot of work. Thanks to all the volunteers who share their plants through the spring plant sales and thanks to our audience who support our endeavors. It is a labor of love to find new homes for our plants.
